P4 Explore Peatlands at An Creagán
On Monday, the P4 pupils had a fantastic day at An Creagán, learning all about the peatlands and the native plants and animals that live and grow there.
Aodhan, who led the workshop, shared a wealth of expertise and knowledge with everyone. The children had the opportunity to sweep through the heather to discover the tiny creatures living within it. They also measured the depth of the bog and were amazed to find that parts of the peatland were up to 10,000 years old.
Aodhan explained the importance of being a “Peatland Protector” and how caring for peatlands is vital for our climate and ecosystems.
The children also enjoyed a walk through the forest, where they learned about the native trees and plants in our local area.
It was a fun-filled and valuable day spent outdoors, learning in nature!
