P6 Pupils Shine at St Mary’s Pomeroy Tournament
20th Jun 2025
Our P6 boys and girls enjoyed a fantastic day out at the St Mary’s Pomeroy Tournament, competing with great spirit, skill, and sportsmanship under glorious sunshine.
The group stages saw some exciting matchups against Carrickmore, Pomeroy, Cookstown, and Galbally. Our boys team put in a series of strong performances to progress to the final, where they faced Cookstown. Meanwhile, the girls team showed tremendous determination and teamwork throughout the day, narrowly missing out on a place in the final. Their commitment and positive attitude were a credit to our school—well done, girls!
The boys final was a thrilling encounter, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats. Trailing by two points at halftime, the Loughmacrory team delivered an impressive first-half effort. Paídí Slane and team captain Cahir McWilliams anchored a rock-solid defence, while Shae Curran-Devlin produced key saves in goal to keep the game within reach.
In the second half, the boys truly came to life with flowing passages of play and clinical finishing. Scores from Noah Kelly, Aodhán Conway, Charlie Duff, and the outstanding Thomas Óg Cunningham—who was deservedly named Player of the Tournament—secured a memorable victory for Loughmacrory at Plunkett Park.
A huge congratulations to all our pupils for their fantastic efforts, and a special thank you to Mrs T. Hinphey, Emma Gormley, and the team at St Mary’s Pomeroy for their warm hospitality and superbly organised tournament. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day for everyone involved!
